Start with a low concentration and gradually increase usage. This minimizes irritation.
Dryness and Irritation
Apply a thin layer of tretinoin at night. Use a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer daily, both morning and night. Consider adding a hydrating serum for extra moisture. If dryness persists, reduce application frequency or temporarily stop use, consulting your dermatologist.
Redness and Peeling
Expect some initial redness and peeling. This usually subsides as your skin adjusts. Avoid harsh scrubs and exfoliants. Use sun protection diligently (SPF 30 or higher) during the day, as tretinoin increases sun sensitivity.
Burning and Stinging
Apply a very thin layer. If burning persists, dilute tretinoin with a moisturizer, applying a small amount of each mixed together. Always apply to clean, dry skin. If irritation is severe, contact your dermatologist immediately.
Breakouts
Increased breakouts are common initially. This is your skin purging; don’t stop treatment. Maintain good hygiene, washing your face gently twice daily. Continue using tretinoin as directed. The initial breakout phase generally resolves within a few weeks.
Sun Sensitivity
Always use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher daily, even on cloudy days. Reapply every two hours, especially after swimming or sweating. Limit sun exposure, especially during peak hours.
