Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by bacteria. Early diagnosis and treatment are key.
Symptoms in Men
- Painful urination Pus-like discharge from the penis Pain or swelling in one testicle
Many men experience no symptoms.
Symptoms in Women
- Increased vaginal discharge Painful urination Vaginal bleeding between periods Abdominal pain
Most women don’t show symptoms. Untreated gonorrhea can lead to serious complications like pelvic inflammatory disease (PID).
Important Note: The absence of symptoms doesn’t mean you don’t have gonorrhea. Regular STI testing is recommended, particularly if you are sexually active.
See a doctor immediately if you suspect you have gonorrhea. Get tested regularly, especially if you have multiple partners. Practice safe sex, including using condoms consistently.
