Understanding Gonorrhea and its Symptoms

Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by bacteria. Early diagnosis and treatment are key.

Symptoms in Men

Painful urination Pus-like discharge from the penis Pain or swelling in one testicle

Many men experience no symptoms.

Symptoms in Women

Increased vaginal discharge Painful urination Vaginal bleeding between periods Abdominal pain

Most women don’t show symptoms. Untreated gonorrhea can lead to serious complications like pelvic inflammatory disease (PID).

Important Note: The absence of symptoms doesn’t mean you don’t have gonorrhea. Regular STI testing is recommended, particularly if you are sexually active.

See a doctor immediately if you suspect you have gonorrhea. Get tested regularly, especially if you have multiple partners. Practice safe sex, including using condoms consistently.
