Proper Dosage and Administration of Doxycycline

Always follow your doctor’s instructions. A typical dosage for adults is 100mg twice daily, but this varies greatly depending on the infection being treated. Children’s dosages are significantly lower and determined by weight.

Take Doxycycline with a full glass of water. Avoid taking it with dairy products, antacids, or iron supplements, as these can reduce absorption.

Timing is important. Take your doses at roughly the same time each day, to maintain consistent levels in your bloodstream. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it’s almost time for your next dose. Don’t double the dose.

Complete the entire course of antibiotics, even if you feel better before the medication is finished. Stopping early can lead to antibiotic resistance.

Doxycycline can cause sun sensitivity. Use sunscreen with a high SPF and limit sun exposure while taking this medication. Report any unusual side effects, like severe stomach upset or allergic reactions, immediately to your physician.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Doxycycline can harm an unborn baby. It’s also not recommended during breastfeeding. Discuss alternative treatment options with your doctor if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding.
